A number of reports are downloaded in text format. To import these files into Excel, follow the steps below:

  1. Download the text file to your computer (e.g., Desktop)
  2. Open the Excel program and, from the menu bar, click on File > Open
  3. A dialog box will appear.
  4. Ensure the Look in: box contains the location of the file that you want to import (in this case the Desktop) and change the Files of type: box to list All Files (*.*). The text file you want to convert should be listed.
  5. Click on the text file and then on the Open button
  6. A Text Import Wizard will appear (Step 1 of 3).
  7. Ensure the radio button next to Delimited is checked and then click Next.
  8. Step 2 of the Text Import Wizard window will appear.
  9. In the Delimiters box, uncheck Tab and place a checkmark next to Other:. In the space next to "Other:" enter the "pipe" symbol ( | ). The pipe character is selected by holding down the shift key while pressing the "backslash" key ( \ ).
  10. In the Text qualifier box, ensure there are double quotes ( " ) listed and click Finish. (Step 3 of the Text Import Wizard is not required.)
